Diabetes

Diabetes

Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic conditions which causes an increase of blood sugar level over a long time. The 2 main types of Diabetes are Type 1, which affects people in their teens and requires regular insulin injections; or Type 2, which affects generally older people and is controlled initially via diet, then tablets, and finally injections if Diabetic control cannot be met.

One of the main problems Diabetes causes for patients is bleeding within the eye due to poor control. Having a regular eye check will allow the Optometrist to see if there are issues occurring and if this needs referral for further investigation and treatment at the hospital.

At Murray Opticians, we recommend an annual eye check which will include a vision check to see if Diabetes is causing any changes to your eye.
