Nystagmus

Nystagmus

Nystagmus is where eyes involuntary move side to side or up and down. The person who has this does not have full control over their focussing on one specific thing. This results in overall reduced vision compared to someone who does not suffer from nystagmus. The level of reduction varies from person to person, and depends on any underlying problems like albinism.

This is different to micro-movements eyes naturally do when eyes move a little to keep the focus sharp and clear.

At Murray Opticians, we will have a complete discussion if you suffer from Nystagmus and offer any tailored spectacle treatment to help reduce it where possible or refer you to the hospital to get further investigations if required.
